Today, we remember International Master Viatcheslav Osnos, born in Luga, USSR, on July 24, 1935.
He was the champion of Leningrad in 1971 and 1980 and participated in six finals of the Soviet championship.
An excellent trainer, Osnos was for some time among Viktor Korchnoi's seconds. His highest rating was the unofficial 2550 in 1969, a score that placed him thirty-fifth in the world.
Osno defeated prominent names such as Spassky, Bronstein, Geller, Polugaevsky, Averbakh, Krogius, Sosonko, and G. Kuzmin during his career.
An esteemed author of theoretical books, Osnos would have amply deserved the title of Grandmaster.
