Today, we remember Grandmaster Slobodan Martinovic, who was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, on July 25, 1945.
Although he never won a Yugoslav championship, his name was always present in the Informant. Martinovic reached peak fame in 1985 when he participated in the Amsterdam tournament, where he drew twice against Karpov and won against Miles.
Throughout his career, he also defeated players like Andrei Sokolov, Szabo, Torre, Krogius, Smejkal, Psakhis, Sosonko, Sakaev, and Kozul.
Martinovic reached his highest rating in July 1996 with 2500 Elo points.
