Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Peter Lukacs, born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 9, 1950.
A student of Karoly Honfi, he was the Hungarian champion in 1980 and was part of the team that finished second at the European Team Championships in 1977 and 1980.
Lukacs reached his highest rating in July 1997 with 2520 Elo points. He defeated top-level players such as Jussupow, Leko, Bareev, Sax, Movsesian, Chernin, Uhlmann, and Tukmakov during his career.
Among Hungary's best trainers, he coached Rapport, Susan Polgar, Acs, Berkes, Banusz, Prohaszka, Gonda, Fodor, and many others. Lukacs was also a theoretical consultant for Boris Gelfand for about twenty years.
