Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Evgeny Bareev, born in Yemanzhelinsk, Russia, on November 21, 1966.
Evgeny was World Champion U16 in 1982 and Soviet Champion in 1990; with the Russian Team won four Olympiads, with an individual Silver medal.
Bareev was a candidate several times and reached the semifinals in 2004, losing to the future World Champion Veselin Topalov.
His best result in the World Cup was the final in 2000, where he lost to Anand. Bareev reached his peak rating of 2739 Elo points in October 2003, occupying the fourth place in the world ranking.
Bareev has written many books, and he's a FIDE Senior Trainer. He was on the team that helped Kramnik in the 2000 PCA World Championship that Vladimir won against Kasparov.
Since 2015, Bareev has played under the Canadian flag.
