Today is the birthday of former World Champion Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, born in Tønsberg, Norway, on November 30, 1990.
Magnus became a grandmaster at 13 and World Champion in 2013 - beating Anand to defend the title four times: in 2014 against Anand, in 2016 against Karjakin, in 2018 against Caruana, and in 2012 against Nepomniachtchi.
In July 2022, Magnus announced his will to renounce playing the next world championship match, primarily due to a lack of motivation.
Carlsen is a four-time Rapid World Champion and six-time Blitz World Champion. He reached the highest Elo rating ever in 2014, with 2882 points, which he reached again in 2020.
In 2020, he also recorded 125 official games without a single loss.
